Jet count is the most quoted number in hot tub sales and one of the least useful. A spa advertising sixty jets can deliver a weaker, less useful massage than one with thirty, because the same pump is being divided across twice as many outlets. What matters is how much water each jet moves and whether it is pointed at something that needs it.
Why the number on the brochure misleads people
A hot tub pump produces a fixed amount of flow. Split that across a large number of jets and each one gets less. Split it across fewer, better placed jets and each one has real pressure behind it.
The second problem is aim. Most jets in most hot tubs are installed wherever the shell mold allowed, not where the human body has muscles worth working on. You end up with a lot of jets hitting your calves and your ribs and very few doing anything for the places that actually ache.
How JetPaks change the equation
Rather than molding jets permanently into the shell, each seat holds a removable JetPak. Each JetPak is a self contained massage configuration, engineered around a specific type of relief, and the plumbing runs to the seat rather than to individual jets.
The practical result is that you choose the massage per seat. If you want a deep, targeted back massage in your seat and your partner wants something broad and gentle in theirs, you get both in the same tub. That is not possible with fixed jets.
Matching the massage to what hurts
When people describe their problem in plain language, the JetPak choice usually becomes obvious.
- Lower back tightness from sitting or lifting: a configuration with concentrated pressure across the lumbar region
- Neck and shoulder tension: higher placement with narrower, more focused streams
- General soreness after yard work or training: broader coverage with moderate pressure across the whole back
- Sensitive to strong pressure: a wide, softer pattern that still moves real volume without digging in
- Legs and feet: floor and calf placement, often paired with an upright seat rather than a lounge
You can change your mind later
This is the part most people do not realize matters until a few years in. Your body changes. You take up running, you have a surgery, a kid grows up and starts using the tub, or the shoulder that never bothered you starts bothering you.
Because JetPaks lift out and swap in without a technician rebuilding your plumbing, the tub adapts. You are not stuck with a decision you made in a showroom in 2026.
Feel the difference before you decide
None of this translates through a website. Come try several JetPaks in a heated tub and you will know inside a few minutes which one you want, and you will also understand why jet count was never the right question.
Test soaks are free and by appointment. We are open Tuesday through Saturday, so give us a call and we will set one up.
